Before you start: make sure your Galaxy supports eSIM. Models such as the Galaxy S20, S21, Note 20, Z Fold and newer generally do. You can also check supported phones.

  1. Open the SIM card manager: go to Settings > Connections > SIM card manager (SIM manager on some models).
  2. Tap Add mobile plan.
  3. Scan the QR code with your camera. If you have written details instead, choose Add using activation code and enter them.
  4. Activate the eSIM by following the on-screen steps, then wait for it to connect.
  5. Label it, for example “Work”, and set your preferences for calls, messages and data.
  6. Set your primary and secondary SIMs for calls, messages and data in the SIM card manager.
  7. Check the connection: both your physical SIM and eSIM should show as active with network signal.

Tips for using your second line

  • Switching lines: switch between lines for calls and messages in the SIM card manager.
  • Data: use one SIM for data and the other for calls and texts to manage costs or coverage.
  • Travel: set up your eSIM for international travel to avoid high roaming charges on your personal SIM.

Troubleshooting

  • Activation issues: update your phone to the latest software version.
  • Connection problems: restart your phone after adding the eSIM.
