On 31 January 2027, the UK's analogue phone network is being permanently switched off. If your business uses a traditional landline, you need to switch before the deadline. Mobex brings voice, mobile, and messaging onto one system, so you can move with one switch and keep your numbers.

Our solutions are crafted to enhance the efficiency of your operations and significantly reduce your communication costs.
BT Openreach is decommissioning the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and ISDN, the technology behind every traditional UK landline. They are being replaced with digital phone services delivered over broadband.
The deadline was extended from December 2025 to give vulnerable users and critical line dependencies more time to migrate. There will not be a further extension.
Traditional landlines, ISDN lines, and on-premises phone systems all need to migrate. Anything else using the analogue line, alarms, lifts, payment terminals, fax machines, also needs to be checked.
Yes. If your business already uses Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams can replace your entire phone system. Most UK businesses use Teams every day for chat and meetings without realising it can also handle every business call. There's no new app to install, and no second platform to learn. For most Microsoft 365 customers, this is the simplest path off the old phone network.
A modern business phone system that runs over your broadband. Desk phones, softphone apps, and full call control, with all your existing numbers ported across.
Best for: businesses that want a like-for-like landline replacement, with proper call routing and reception features.
Turn Microsoft Teams into your phone system. Make and take business calls in the app your team already uses every day. No new software for staff to learn.
Best for: businesses already on Microsoft 365. The simplest path off the old network for most companies.
Dual eSIM business mobile. Work and personal lines on one device, with business numbers, business texting, and full mobile control from day one.
Best for: businesses that work on the go. Property, estate agents, field services, anyone not tied to a desk.
Use your business numbers for every customer conversation — not personal mobiles.
Work from any device. Run your business line on a SIM, a softphone, or both.
Customer conversations belong to your business. Not the phone in someone's pocket.
One provider. Voice, mobile, and messaging in one system.
WhatsApp under control. Customer chats stay with the business.
One messaging system across every site. Tenants reach the right team.
Patient conversations stay with the practice. Continuity always.
Microsoft Teams calling, multi-site campuses, term-time peaks.
Client comms you can audit. Hybrid working, full oversight.
Yes. Your phone numbers transfer with you when you switch off the analogue network. The process is called number porting, and it is a legal right for UK businesses. You keep your existing landline numbers, including any direct dial numbers (DDIs) for individual staff. Porting typically takes 5 to 10 working days once you have signed your new contract. There is no need to tell customers you have switched, your numbers ring exactly the same way they always have.
Most UK SMB switches complete in 2 to 4 weeks from contract signing. A simple migration, a single VoIP line for a small team with no complications, can be live within a week. Larger or more complex setups take longer: multi-site businesses, businesses with alarm or lift line dependencies, and businesses that need new or upgraded broadband alongside the phone switch all add time. As the 31 January 2027 deadline approaches, queues at every UK provider will lengthen, and broadband installation lead times in particular will stretch. Switching in mid-2026 is significantly faster, and significantly less risky, than switching in late 2026 or January 2027.
Most UK businesses do not need to buy new phones when they switch off the analogue network. Any IP phone bought in roughly the last seven years will work on a modern cloud phone system without replacement. Older analogue handsets, including most cordless DECT phones bought before around 2018, will need either an analogue telephone adapter (ATA) or a like-for-like replacement, depending on the model. Many UK SMBs use the switch-off as the moment to move to softphone apps on existing computers and mobiles, which removes the need for desk phones entirely. Mobex will audit your existing equipment before you commit, so you know exactly what works, what needs an adapter, and what needs replacing.
A modern digital phone call uses very little broadband, around 100 kbps per concurrent call, so most UK business broadband connections are easily fast enough. A small office of 10 people, with five concurrent calls happening at once, needs only about 500 kbps of upload bandwidth for voice. That is well within the capacity of even a basic fibre broadband connection, and within most ADSL connections too. If your current broadband is older, unreliable, or struggles with video calls, that is worth fixing for general business reasons, not just for the switch-off. Mobex can supply business broadband alongside voice on the same contract, which is the simplest option for most SMBs and removes any finger-pointing between phone and broadband providers if something goes wrong.
