Number porting FAQ
How porting works, how long it takes, and when to cancel your old provider.
What is porting?
Porting moves your phone number from one provider to another, so you keep your number when you switch.
What should I expect?
Your current provider is called the “losing” carrier and Mobex is the “winning” carrier.
Important: port requests must be started by the winning carrier (Mobex). You can’t start a port with your current provider.
How long does it take?
Local US numbers usually take 5–7 business days, as long as the details you give us match your current provider’s records. If anything doesn’t match, it can take around two weeks. Toll-free numbers usually take 5–10 business days.
Will my number work while it’s being ported?
Yes. Your number stays active the whole time.
When should I cancel my old service?
Not until the port is complete. Cancelling early can mean losing your number permanently. Once we confirm your number is live with Mobex, you can cancel your old service.
Ready to port? Fill in the Letter of Authorization.
